Lesson 10: The Art of Astrology

As I said in the Prospectus, I will not cover astrology in great detail. The teachings of the Order explained, in 60 pages, the basics of this art. Astrology is used for divination into the past and future. I have a very low opinion of astrology. I like Chinese astrology for fun, but western astrology lost me years ago.

Astrology, the study of the stars and celestial bodies to determine the course of destiny, has been used for thousands of years. Modern astrology does not match well with the skies as we know them now. I think that the New Age fuzzy bunny philosophies have worked there way so deep into astrology that it has become nothing more that vague pop psychological twaddle.

For the common person, astrology can be useful. It seems to work well for some. For the practicing magician there are much faster, easier and more reliable ways to divine. You can make some money from it if you learn to do it well, or at least pretend to do it well.

Modern computers have made casting handmade astrology charts obsolete. If you fancy astrology than I highly recommend you invest in one of the computer programs for it. Perhaps handmade charts could be made elaborately enough to be sold for display as decoration.

Interpreting a chart is relatively easy. You just need to know the meanings of the symbols, the meanings of the houses, and how angles effect and modify these. With so many books and websites dedicated to astrology, I will leave this up to the individual to learn, or not as they will. Or one could easily apply real psychic talents and just pretend to read the chart.

Computer programs for astrology are becoming more affordable, and often can offer interpretations of the chart for the budding astrologist. Astrology is most useful in conjunction with numerology.

Some magick users utilize astrology in performing magickal operations. The hours of the day, days of the week and such are examples of using astrology in magick. Some go well beyond this even casting charts for specific operations. I have never gave much thought to the location of Mars before working magick.

Basically, if you believe astrology works, or has sway over your powers it will, if you don’t believe in it, it won’t effect you.
